Jesus tells His followers "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid" (.John14 verse 27)

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow .

Your Majesty

There is only one way to build my kingdom and that is on the sure and certain foundation of faith in Jesus Chris Crucified
( from Alfred the Great)

There is only one Christ, Jesus, one faith. All else is a dispute over trifles.
(Queen Elizabeth's response to the Catholic/Protestant divide)

The Netflix show "The Crown" has captivated audiences across the world, featuring the life of Queen Elizabeth. In the show, they portray her as a strong, devout Christian woman.

Over the last 65 plus years, the Queen has taken a deliberate turn towards religion as a ruler.

While Britain as a whole has gotten more secular, the Queen's messages to her people have followed the opposite path. This is most notably addressed in her annual Christmas broadcast message,

Over the past approximately 20 years of her reign these messages have taken on a different tone where she shares her own personal faith.

In 2014, she described her faith as "the anchor in my life."
The Christmas broadcast is a perfect way for the Queen to speak about Christianity, because it is an unscripted segment not regulated by the government.

In 2017, she said, "Billions of people now follow Christ's teaching and find in Him the guiding light for their lives. I am one of them because Christ's example helps me see the value of doing small things with great love, whoever does them and whatever they themselves believe."

A turning point for the Queen was in 2000, or the start of the millennium. This broadcast was devoted to sharing an account of Christ's life and teachings. She concluded by saying He "provide(s) a framework in which I try to lead my life." It is believed that Prince Phillip had a big influence.. He said, "After her very personal account in 2000, she was encouraged to continue because I'm told she received 25 times more letters than usual from the public in response to that Christmas message than others. She had huge support from the Duke of Edinburgh.

Queen Elizabeth was also heavily influenced by her friendship with evangelist Billy Graham. The pair created a friendship in the 1950s, and visited each other multiple times over the following decades including Easter Sunday in 1995.

"No one in Britain has been more cordial toward us than Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II," Graham wrote in his 1997 autobiography, "Just As I Am".

He added, "Her Christian faith is fundamental to her in an old-time evangelical way.".

Queen Elizabeth II might not have been vocal about her faith during the beginning of her reign, but as time went on her spiritual journey flourished

She has put God at the forefront and used her platform to speak His truth. The Queen's faith has truly shaped how she wanted to live her life as a ruler and governor of Britain.

We thank you Lord for the faith of Kings and Queens of our country who have followed you. Bless our Queen and we would pray from the National Anthem "Long may she reign"

Teamwork

There were four men named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it.

Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.

Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn't do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Quarrels

If you have had a quarrel, just make it up today,

No matter whether you have lost, or if you've had your way.

A triumph over others, will not bring lasting gain,

If it leaves behind a feeling, a sense of hurt or pain.

And if defeat has come to you, don't harbour wrath or spite,

We sometimes find when tempers cool, the other man was right.

October 31st Halloween

This name comes from “All Hallows Evening” –the evening before All Hallows Day which is always on 31st October. The word "Hallows" is ol English for SAINT.- so we would say today that Halloween is All Saints Evening. This is traditionally when Christians remember with thankfulness all the saints who have died.

The Anglican Churches in both Holme on Spalding Moor and Market Weighton are named “All Saints”.

BUT did you know that Halloween has a dark side to it as well.

For Celtic people living many years ago in France and Britain it was the beginning of their year, and they believed that Samhain, the lord of death, sent evil spirits abroad to attack humans, who could escape only by assuming disguises and looking like evil spirits themselves.

But that is all myth, isn’t it?

Surely this doesn’t matter today?

Surely this is all harmless fun

Well actually not entirely …

For those who today practice Wicca, the official religion of witchcraft, Halloween is a real sacred day.

In fact, it is one of two high and holy days for them. Halloween represents an opportunity for them to embrace the evil, devilish, and dark side of the spiritual world.

As Christians we pray that you and your family will be protected from all evil in the coming year ahead

Shalom
